The Rongai Route is a relatively less crowded route for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. A 6-day itinerary is quite challenging in terms of acclimatization, so it's essential to be well-prepared and in good physical condition

Arrival
Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you will meet a dreamscape Travel representative, and transfer you to Moshi town where you will spend the first night at the hotel.

Day 1
Rongai Gate (1,950m/6,398ft) to Simba Camp (2,650m/8,694ft)
Activity: The day starts with a morning briefing at your hotel in Moshi followed by a drive to the Rongai Gate. At the gate, you'll complete park formalities Our porters prepare and pack our supplies and luggage. The trail starts in a forested area and gradually ascends.
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Distance: Approximately 7km

Day 2
Simba Camp (2,650m/8,694ft) to Kikelewa Camp (3,600m/11,811ft)
Activity: The day's hike takes you through moorland with sparse vegetation. You'll gain elevation steadily and enjoy scenic views of the surrounding landscape.

Day 3
Kikelewa Camp (3,600m/11,811ft) to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m/14,206ft)
Activity: Today, you'll hike toward Mawenzi Tarn, nestled in the shadow of Mawenzi Peak. The trail is relatively short, allowing for acclimatization.

Distance: Approximately 4km
Elevation Gain: 730m (2,395ft)
Habitat: Alpine Desert

Day 4
Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m/14,206ft) to Kibo Hut (4,700m/15,419ft)
Activity: The trail today takes you across the Saddle, a barren alpine desert with spectacular views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
Distance: Approximately 8km
Elevation Gain: 370m (1,214ft)
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Accommodation: Kibo Hut

Day 5
Kibo Hut (4,700m/15,419ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft) to Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,205ft)
Activity: Summit Day! An early start (midnight) takes you to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Descend to Horombo Hut for the night.
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours to the summit, then 4-6 hours descent
Distance: Approximately 6km to the summit, 16km descent
Elevation Gain: 1,195m (3,917ft) ascent, 2,175m (7,135ft) descent
Habitat: Arctic (summit), Moorland (Horombo Hut)
Accommodation: Horombo Hut

Day 6
Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,205ft) to Marangu Gate (1,860m/6,102ft)
Activity: The final descent takes you through moorland and montane forest zones. You'll arrive at Marangu Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificates from the Park Headquarters. Transfer to your hotel.
Transport: Private transfer (0.5 hour, 39 km)
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Distance: Approximately 20km
