The Marangu Route, often referred to as the "Coca-Cola Route," is one of the most popular routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. A 5-day itinerary is the shortest duration for this route and may be challenging in terms of acclimatization. Please note that a 5-day Marangu Route itinerary offers less time for acclimatization, which can increase the risk of altitude-related issues. It's essential to be well-prepared for the altitude and consult with a reputable tour operator for a safe and successful climb. This route is not recommended for those with limited high-altitude trekking experience.

Arrival
Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you will meet a dreamscape Travel representative, and transfer you to Moshi town
where you will spend the first night at the hotel.

Day 1
Marangu Gate (1,860m/6,102ft) to Mandara Hut (2,700m/8,858ft)
Activity The day starts with a morning briefing at your hotel in Moshi followed by a drive to the Marangu Gate. The trail takes you through lush rainforest with opportunities for wildlife sightings.

Day 2

Activity: Today's hike takes you through moorland, with views of the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. You'll gain elevation gradually.

Day 3
Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,205ft) - Acclimatization Day
Activity: A rest day at Horombo Hut to help with acclimatization. You can take short hikes in the area or simply relax and enjoy the views.

Day 4
Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,205ft) to Kibo Hut (4,700m/15,419ft)
Activity: Today, you'll hike across the "Saddle," a barren alpine desert between the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

Day 5
Kibo Hut (4,700m/15,419ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft) to Marangu Gate (1,860m/6,102ft)
Activity: Summit Day! You'll start your ascent to Uhuru Peak very early in the midnight to reach the summit at sunrise. Descend all the way back to Marangu Gate.
- Hiking Time: 6-8 hours to the summit, then 5-7 hours descent
- Distance: Approximately 6km to the summit, 20km descent
- Elevation Gain: 1,195m (3,917ft) ascent, 2,235m (7,332ft) descent
- Habitat: Arctic (summit), Moorland (Horombo Hut)
- Accommodation: Hotel
Departure
After a much-needed nights rest, we will bid you goodbye. If you have arranged airport transfers with us or a safari / Zanzibar trip, we will collect you in the morning for your onward journey.
